Fulton, Mo 10/12/2023- The Westminster College men's soccer team hosted the Greenville University Panthers on Wednesday night. They would play to a 2-2 draw. The draw is the first for the Blue Jays whose record moves to 2-8-1 overall on the season and 1-2-1 in the SLIAC. The Panthers go to 5-6-3 on the year and 1-1-3 in the SLIAC.

The Blue Jays would strike first after Travis Bieg found the back of the net in the 3rd minute for his fourth goal of the year and gave Westminster an early 1-0 lead. In the 35th minute, the Panthers equalized, and they tied the game 1-1 heading into halftime.

Greenville would score the go-ahead goal in the 85th minute to go up 2-1 and looked to be on their way to the win. That was until a couple of minutes later, in the 87th minute, when Jack Hughes crossed the ball into the box and Braedon Cairer put a shot on goal. The Panthers keeper would block it, but the rebound would go to Niklas Olsson, who scored off the rebound to tie the game 2-2. The goal would be Olsson's fourth of the season. Time would run out and the two teams would have to settle for a 2-2 draw.

Connor Benefield got the start in goal for the Jays, and he would make eight saves on the ten shots he faced.

The Blue Jays will return on Saturday, October 14th when they travel to Louisville, Kentucky to take on Spalding University. The kick-off will take place at 2:00 p.m. central time.
