Fulton, Mo. - The Westminster College Blue Jay Baseball team is back in action after an 8 day lay-off Saturday and Sunday at home for a four game SLIAC series vs. the Fontbonne University Griffins.  The Blue Jays have an overall record of 9-10 and 6-6 in the SLIAC.

Taking a look at the Westminster College Blue Jays (9-10, 6-6 SLIAC):

  • The Blue Jays were picked to finish 4th in the SLIAC Pre-season Coaches Poll.
  • Last time out the Blue Jays dropped a double header on the road at #2 Washington University 11-3 in game one and 10-4 in game two.
  • The leading hitters for the Blue Jays are Derek Shikles who is batting .292 with 9 RBI's and Payton Whitehead who is hitting .342 with 4 home runs and 14 RBI's.  Hunter Mulholland is batting .340 with 14 RBI's and leads the Blue Jays in on base percentage at .435.
  • Whitehead leads the team with four home runs.  Bryce McKinnon, Steven Diaz and Mulholland each have three.
  • Diaz leads the team with six stolen bases.
  • Freshman Dawson Koch leads the Blue Jay pitching staff as he is 3-2 in 5 appearances with a 4.94 ERA in 27.1 innings with 21 walks and 24 strikeouts.
  • Andrew Boessen leads the relief corps with 3 saves.  He has a remarkable 18 strikeouts and just one walk in 18.1 innings pitched.

 Taking a look at the Fontbonne University Griffins (11-1, 14-8 SLIAC):

  • The Griffins were picked to finish 3rd in the SLIAC Pre-season Coaches Poll.
  • Fontbonne is coming into today after sweeping a doubleheader at home vs. Greenville 6-5 and 11-4 just five days ago.
  • The Griffins leading hitters are Daniel Youngblood who is hitting .488 with 14 doubles, 7 home runs and 38 RBI's. Catcher, Ty Kueper is hitting .394 with 25 RBI's. Braeden Dobbs is hitting .372 with 5 home runs and 25 RBI's.
  • Youngblood leads the team with five stolen bases.
  • Derek Morganthaler leads the Griffins on the mound going 4-1 pitching 24.1 innings while striking out 15 and walking 12 with a 4.44 ERA.
  • The Griffins have a conference best .335 team batting average. They have scored a conference best 198 runs to date and hit a conference best 20 home runs.
