Fulton, Mo. - The Westminster College Blue Jay Baseball team is back in action looking to get back on track after dropping a tough four game series last weekend against Spalding University.  The Blue Jays enter todays games with a 14-18 overall record and are 10-14 in the SLIAC which puts them in 4th place with 4 games remaining.  Today the Jays will travel to  play the Greenville University Panthers in an important four game series on Friday and Saturday as they try to lock up fourth place and the four seed in the conference tournament.

Taking a look at the Westminster College Blue Jays (14-18, 10-14 SLIAC):

  • The Blue Jays are currently sitting in 4th place in the SLIAC race with four games remaining.
  • Last time out the Blue Jays were swept in a double header at home last Sunday against Spalding University 3-2 in a heartbreaking game one loss and 10-4 in game two.
  • The leading hitters for the Blue Jays are Derek Shikles who is batting .314 with 4 home runs and 22 RBI's and Payton Whitehead who is hitting .315 with 4 home runs and 22 RBI's and leads the Blue Jays in on base percentage at .393.  Hunter Mulholland is batting .283 with a team leading 26 RBI's.
  • Steven Diaz leads the team with five home runs.  Derek Shikles, Mulholland, Parker Schnieders and Whitehead are next with four home runs each.
  • Diaz leads the team with seven stolen bases. Coltin Green has six thefts.
  • Freshman Dawson Koch leads the Blue Jay pitching staff in wins as he is 4-4 in 9 appearances with a 6.81 ERA in 39.2 innings with 31 walks and 37 strikeouts.
  • Andrew Boessen leads the relief corps with 3 saves. A converted starter here of late He leads the staff with a 2.61 ERA and four complete games as a starter.  He has a remarkable 38 strikeouts and just five walks in 41.1 innings pitched.
  • The Blue Jays are hitting .265 as a team with a .350 on base percentage.  The Jays have scored 175 runs in 32 games. The Blue Jays have 30 home runs.

Taking a look at the Greenville University Panthers (8-25, 8-16 SLIAC):

  • The Panthers are currently 6th in the SLIAC heading into the home stretch.
  • Greenville is coming into today after sweeping a doubleheader at Blackburn 3-1 and 13-6 last Saturday.
  • The Panthers leading hitters are Landon Mokris who is hitting .339 with 3 home runs, 38 RBI's and an on base percentage of .397.  Drew Fry is batting .292 with 10 RBI's.
  • Frey leads the team with 14 stolen bases.  Tanner Gerdes has 12 stolen bases.
  • Jaxon Gipson leads the Panthers on the mound going 2-5 pitching 55.1 innings while striking out 30 and walking 21 with a 4.23 ERA.
  • Greenville as a team is hitting .237 with 9 home runs and an on base percentage of .334.  In 33 games the Panthers have scored 161 runs.
