9/15/24 Fulton, MO - Westminster College's football team suffered a tough defeat Saturday, falling 42-0 to Sewanee on the road at Hardee-McGee Field at Harris Stadium in Sewanee, Tennessee. The loss brings Westminster to 1-1 on the season.
Sewanee's defense proved too much for the Blue Jays, limiting them to just 80 passing yards and negative rushing totals. Quarterback Keegan Zdybel completed 8 of 18 passes for 80 yards, while Ian Bock managed just 13 yards on 1 of 5 attempts, throwing one interception. Zdybel's longest completion of the game was a 30-yard pass to receiver Aden Campbell, who finished with 43 yards on two receptions.
The Blue Jays' rushing game was stifled, as the team combined for -52 yards on 31 attempts. The leading rusher, Payton Olsson, had a single 5-yard carry, while Jaden Williams added 5 yards. The Sewanee defense was in the Blue Jay backfield all afternoon, getting one sack and ten tackles for a loss resulting in the negative rushing yards.
William Corley, the team's punter, was kept busy throughout the game, punting 10 times for 324 yards, including a long of 54 yards with two punts landing inside the 20.
Defensively, Daronne Wright made an interception, returning it for just 1 yard, but it wasn't enough to slow down Sewanee's offensive momentum. Sewanee's 22-point third quarter sealed the game as they cruised to a 42-0 victory.
Westminster will have the opportunity to regroup and bounce back in their next game, which is set to be their Homecoming matchup. The Blue Jays will face off against William Woods University next Saturday at 6:00 PM.
