Westminster Football Falls to Minnesota Morris in High-Scoring Game

11/10/24 Fulton, MO - The Westminster Blue Jays displayed resilience and strong individual performances despite a 47-27 loss to Minnesota Morris on Saturday. Quarterback Keegan Zdybel led Westminster's offensive effort, finishing with 213 passing yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions. Zdybel also showed his dual-threat ability, adding 53 rushing yards, including an impressive 52-yard touchdown run. 

The Blue Jays' offense came alive in the second quarter after falling behind early. Zdybel connected with Aden Campbell for a 15-yard touchdown to get Westminster on the board. Just minutes later, Zdybel sprinted 52 yards to the end zone, cutting Minnesota Morris's led to 17-14 and bringing the Blue Jays back into the game. Campbell continued to be Zdybel's top target, hauling in 6 receptions for 131 yards, averaging 21.8 yards per catch, and scoring two touchdowns, including a 36-yard reception. Zdybel found Campbell again for a 17-yard touchdown in the third quarter, narrowing the gap to 26-20. Despite Westminster's rally, Minnesota Morris extended their lead in the fourth quarter, putting up three more touchdowns. Westminster's offense responded with one final scoring drive, capped by a 5-yard touchdown pass from Zdybel to Trace Helsel, who finished with two receptions for 24 yards. Ivan Marin, Kaden Olson, and Braylon White also made crucial receptions, combining to help move the ball for the Blue Jays throughout the game. 

On defense, Westminster saw standout performances. Alex Goly led the team with 15 tackles. Daronne Wright made an impact with 9 tackles, a forced fumble, and an interception he returned for 11 yards. Dillon Farrell, Garrett Burger, and Deacon Steadman contributed a combined 21 tackles, adding consistent pressure to the Cougars' offense. 

Westminster will look to build on these individual efforts as they prepare for their final game of the season on November 16th against Northwestern. The Blue Jays will celebrate Senior Day with kickoff set for 11:00 AM, hoping to finish the season on a high note with a strong team performance.
