Blue Jays Fall to Crown in Hard-Fought Contest

10/22/24 Fulton, MO - In a tough home matchup, the Westminster Blue Jays (1-5, 0-2) could not maintain their early lead and fell to Crown College (Minn.) (1-5, 1-1) by a score of 30-13 on Saturday. Despite a strong start to the second half, Crown's late surge sealed the game.

Crown got on the board first with a 30-yard field goal early in the first quarter. A 6-yard rushing touchdown extended their lead to 9-0 by the end of the quarter. Westminster found their footing in the second quarter. Kicker Hugo Jover connected on two field goals—one from 20 yards out and a booming 45-yarder as time expired in the half—narrowing Crown's led to 9-6. The Blue Jays took the lead briefly in the third quarter, with Ian Bock finding Aaron Parks for a 25-yard touchdown pass, putting Westminster ahead 13-9. Parks was a standout, finishing the game with 5 catches for 97 yards. However, Crown responded in the fourth quarter.

Westminster's offense struggled to find consistency, as quarterback Ian Bock finished with 121 yards, one touchdown, and four interceptions. The Blue Jays' run game was also limited, with Marquis Williams leading the team with 35 yards on the ground. On special teams, Jover was perfect, hitting both of his field goal attempts, while punter William Corley averaged 34.9 yards on seven punts, with two landing inside the 20-yard line. Aden Campbell added 59 kickoff return yards and 20 punt return yards, providing some sparks on special teams.

Westminster will look to bounce back next week as they prepare to travel for another conference showdown.
