Westminster Football Concludes Season on Senior Day

11/16/24 Fulton, MO - The Westminster Blue Jays wrapped up their 2024 season with a hard-fought 33-21 loss to University of Northwestern on Saturday, celebrating the contributions of 14 seniors during a spirited Senior Day event. Despite the final score, the Blue Jays delivered standout performances on both sides of the ball.   

The game started with an electric moment for Westminster when senior Dillon Farrell intercepted a pass on Northwestern's first drive and returned it 30 yards for a touchdown, putting the Blue Jays ahead 7-0 just 22 seconds into the game. Quarterback Keegan Zdybel led the offensive effort, accounting for both of Westminster's offensive touchdowns. In the third quarter, Zdybel capped a 16-play, 57-yard drive with a 1-yard rushing touchdown to bring Westminster within six points, making it 20-14. Early in the fourth quarter, Zdybel broke free for a thrilling 51-yard touchdown run, cutting Northwestern's lead to 26-21.  

Zdybel finished with 63 rushing yards on 17 attempts and added 120 passing yards on 14 completions. Dante Billups led the rushing attack with 70 yards on 18 carries, averaging 3.9 yards per carry. Zdybel found consistent targets in Aden Campbell and Ivan Marin, who combined for nine receptions and 92 yards. Defensively, Farrell's interception return for a touchdown was a highlight of the day. Daronne Wright also made key contributions, adding a 14-yard reception to help extend the drive. The Blue Jays' defense battled throughout the game, with seniors stepping up to keep Northwestern from pulling away early.   

The day marked an emotional conclusion for Westminster's 14 seniors, who were recognized for their dedication and leadership throughout their careers. Despite a challenging season, the Blue Jays demonstrated grit and determination, ending the year with moments of brilliance that showcased the team's potential moving forward.
