Westminster Falls to Lindenwood in a 5-0 Loss

09/08/2024 St. Charles, MO– The Westminster Blue Jays (0-4-0) faced a tough challenge on the road, falling 5-0 to Lindenwood (2-2-1) on September 8, 2024, at Harlen C. Hunter Stadium.

Lindenwood quickly took control of the match, scoring just 1:23 into the game when Matteo Boasso found the back of the net with assists from Ethan Blake and John Gates. Westminster struggled to create scoring opportunities throughout the first half, with only two shots, none on target, allowing Lindenwood to maintain their 1-0 lead at halftime.

The second half saw Lindenwood capitalize on their offensive momentum, adding four more goals. Blake scored in the 50th minute, followed by Boasso's second goal of the game in the 63rd minute. Anis Smajlovic netted his first goal of the season in the 70th minute, and Connor Lovell sealed the victory with a strike at the 80th minute.

Westminster goalkeeper Toby Hughes made nine saves from 14 shots on goal, but the constant pressure from Lindenwood's attack, which tallied 32 shots overall, proved difficult to handle. Ethan Pfaff recorded Westminster's only shot on goal during the match.

Despite a determined defensive effort, Westminster was unable to keep pace with the high-powered Lindenwood offense and will look to regroup as they prepare for their next game, Friday September 13th against William Woods at 7:00pm.
