10/27/2024 Columbus, MS- Westminster College's men's soccer team delivered an impressive 5-0 victory over MUW on October 27, 2024, at the Roger Short Soccer Complex in Columbus. The Blue Jays dominated from the starting whistle and improve to 2-2-3 in conference play.
Westminster jumped out to an early lead right from the start with senior midfielder Niklas Olsson opening the scoring just three minutes in, netting his fourth goal of the season off an assist from forward Travis Bieg. The momentum continued as senior forward Tigran Topchain doubled the lead in the 28th minute, marking his second goal of the season.
In the second half, the Blue Jays intensified their offensive efforts. At the 51st minute, Travis Bieg found the back of the net, assisted by Adam Luetkemeyer, extending the lead to 3-0. Bieg struck again just seven minutes later with an unassisted goal, securing his first multi-goal game of the season. The scoring was capped in the 64th minute when junior forward Nathan Naumann scored his third goal of the season, assisted by Kaedyn Royer and defender.
Westminster's defense was equally impressive, restricting MUW to just four shots, with only one reaching the target. Goalkeeper Toby Hughes made one save to secure the shutout victory. The Blue Jays dominated offensively, outshooting MUW 18-4 and demonstrating their control throughout the match.
With this decisive win, the Blue Jays build valuable momentum heading into their final regular season match. The team will return home on Wednesday, October 30th, to face Webster University at 7:30PM.
