Last Second Goal Secures Point for Westminster

10/05/2024 Fulton, MO- In an intense matchup at Kent & Judith Mueller Stadium on October 5, 2024, Westminster College's men's soccer team battled Principia College to a thrilling 2-2 draw.  

Westminster struck first in the 4th minute when Jack Hughes found the back of the net with an assist from Niklas Olsson, giving the Blue Jays an early lead of 1-0. However, Principia responded strongly, controlling the game in stretches and applying pressure on Westminster's defense. 

The equalizer came just before halftime in the 43rd minute, with Principia leveling the score at 1-1. This momentum carried into the second half, where Principia took the lead for the first time in the match in the 50th minute, putting them ahead 2-1. 

Westminster battled until the very end, and with 31 seconds left on the clock, Niklas Olsson scored a dramatic equalizer with an assist from Braedon Cairer, bringing the score to 2-2 and ensuring that Westminster would earn a point. 

Principia held a slight edge in shots, registering 13 compared to Westminster's 12. The Blue Jays had six corner kicks, demonstrating their offensive pressure throughout the game. 

Westminster's conference record moves to 0-0-2 and Principia's conference record moves to 1-0-2.  

The Blue Jays continue conference play on Thursday October 10th at home against Spalding University at 7:30pm following the Women's soccer match.
