The Westminster men's tennis team won their season opener 5-4 versus Midland University in Fremont, Nebraska Friday evening. The Westminster Blue Jays won all five in tie breakers.
The Blue Jays trailed 2-1 heading into singles play. The doubles win came from the duo of freshman Adam Fuchs and sophomore Scott Strough. They won 9-8 and won the tie breaker 7-5.
Senior Tyler Wollmershauser won in the number one spot, 6-2, 2-6, 10-6. Fuchs won in the number three spot with scores of 6-3, 6-7, 10-8. Junior Kyle Collins won in the fifth spot, 6-7, 6-2, 11-9, and Strough closed out the win with the scores of 4-6, 6-2, 10-8 in the sixth spot.
Senior Nate Connell lost in the second spot, 6-2, 6-2, and freshman Peter Hasenmueller lost in the fourth spot with scores of 6-3 and 6-2.
The Blue Jays end their road trip to Nebraska on Saturday with a 5:30 p.m. match versus Doane College in Crete, Nebraska.
