2/24/2025 Fulton, MO – The Westminster College softball team opened their season on the road against Lincoln University on Monday afternoon. The Blue Jays dropped both games of the doubleheader, falling 6-0 in game one and 30-2 in game two.
Game One
The Blue Jays were held to just two hits in the season opener, coming off the bats of Paige Cruzan and Yadira Montes. Lincoln broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the second, plating two runs to take an early lead. They would add two more runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to secure the 6-0 victory.
Ellie Bedsworth reached base via a walk in the second inning but was stranded. Cruzan singled in the fourth and advanced to second on a wild pitch, but Westminster was unable to capitalize. Montes singled in the seventh but was doubled off on a lineout to end the game.
Game Two
The second game saw Lincoln's bats come alive, as they erupted for 15 runs in the first inning and never looked back. The Blue Jays showed fight, scoring two runs in the fourth inning, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome in the 30-2 loss.
Tatum Bradshaw provided a spark with a double in the second inning, while Mackenzie Collins and Chloe Ferguson each had RBI singles. Destiny Rosario reached base three times, including a single in the first inning. Amber Dierling and Elizabeth Reisenauer also contributed to the scoring, reaching on errors that allowed runs to cross the plate.
The Blue Jays will look to regroup as they return to action on Saturday, March 1, when they face William Woods for a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
