3/23/25 Fulton, MO - The Westminster Blue Jays continued their Florida trip on Sunday, battling against Wisconsin-Platteville and Colby but ultimately falling in both matchups. Despite early scoring in both games, the Blue Jays struggled to maintain momentum as their opponents pulled away. Westminster looks to bounce back in tomorrow's games against Lawrence and Lewis & Clark.
Game 1: Wis.-Platteville 14, Westminster 4 (6 Innings)
Westminster came out strong in the opening innings, but a big six-run second inning from Wisconsin-Platteville shifted the momentum. The Pioneers capitalized on Blue Jay errors and added runs in four of the final five innings to secure a run-rule victory.
The Blue Jays struck early in the first, as Kendall Weber tripled and scored on a Paige Cruzan RBI double. Cruzan later crossed home on a Raigan McKee RBI double, giving Westminster a 2-0 lead. In the second, Weber delivered another triple, scoring Destiny Rosario and Chloe Ferguson making it 4-6.
However, Platteville responded with eight runs over the rest of the game, and Westminster was unable to keep pace. The Pioneers sealed the game with four runs in the sixth inning, ending it in a run rule.
Game 2: Colby 6, Westminster 1
The Blue Jays once again started strong, as Rosario walked, stole second, and scored on a Weber RBI to give Westminster an early 1-0 lead. However, Colby answered with four runs in the second inning and added two more in the fifth to take control.
Westminster finished with four hits, including singles from Cruzan, Weber, Engelmeyer, and Bedsworth, but couldn't find timely hits to extend innings. The Blue Jays' defense held strong, committing no errors, but Colby's 10-hit effort proved too much to overcome.
The Blue Jays wrap up their Florida slate tomorrow with games against Lawrence and Lewis & Clark. Westminster will look to find its offensive rhythm and finish the trip on a high note.
