3/31/25 Fulton, MO - The Westminster Blue Jays wrapped up their non-conference slate with a doubleheader split at Hendrix, rebounding from an 8-0 loss in Game 1 with a dominant 9-3 victory in Game 2. The win in the nightcap gives Westminster momentum as they shift their focus to the start of conference play at Fontbonne on April 1 at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
Game 1: Hendrix 8, Westminster 0 (5 innings)
Westminster struggled to generate offense in the opener, recording just four hits and leaving five runners on base. Hendrix broke through with two runs in the second, then added two more in the third and steadily pulled away, capping things off with a three-run fifth inning to secure the run-rule victory.
Destiny Rosario provided a bright spot at the plate, finishing 2-for-3, while Raigan McKee and Taylor Engelmeyer each added a hit.
Game 2: Westminster 9, Hendrix 3
The Blue Jays bounced back in a big way in Game 2, erupting for seven runs in the third inning to take control early.
Westminster jumped ahead in the first when Tatum Bradshaw's two-run double brought home Kendall Weber and Paige Cruzan. Then came the explosive third inning, where the Blue Jays took advantage of Hendrix's defensive errors and piled on seven runs on seven hits. Chloe Ferguson ripped an RBI double, while Weber, Raigan McKee, and Haley Veliz all added run-scoring hits in the rally. Ferguson and Weber finished 3-for-4, while McKee had a multi-hit performance.
On the mound, Peityn Thomas was dominant, going the distance in a complete-game effort. She allowed just three hits and three earned runs over seven innings, striking out four while working around six walks. She kept Hendrix's offense in check, securing Westminster's fourth win of the season.
With non-conference play behind them, the Blue Jays turn their attention to their first conference matchup at Fontbonne on April 1. The doubleheader marks the start of the push for postseason positioning, and Westminster will look to build off its Game 2 success as they face a key SLIAC opponent.
