Westminster Falls to Simpson 6-1 on the Road

10/01/24 Indianola, IA- The Westminster College Blue Jays faced a tough challenge on the road against the undefeated Simpson College Storm, ultimately falling 6-1 under the lights at Bill Buxton Stadium. 

Simpson came out strong, opening the scoring just under two minutes into the game, followed by three more throughout the first half to give Simpson a commanding 4-0 lead at halftime. 

Simpson maintained their aggressive play in the second half, scoring in the 57th minute, and making the score 5-0. Westminster showed signs of life shortly after. In the 58th minute, Annalise Beck scored her second goal of the season, off of a free kick, and put the Blue Jays on the board at 5-1. However, Simpson responded decisively and scored once more, sealing the game at 6-1.  

Westminster managed six shots during the match, with four of those on target. Freshman forward Eastin Colyer contributed two shots, while Faith Coates and Claire Sanders also tested the Simpson goalkeeper with shots on goal. The Blue Jays also earned three corner kicks, showing their ability to apply pressure on the opposing defense. 

Defensively, goalkeeper Kendall Chigas faced relentless pressure from Simpson's offense but stood strong in goal, recording eight saves over the 90 minutes.  

As the Blue Jays move forward, they will turn their focus to their next conference matchup when they host Principia College on October 5th at 5:30PM at the Kent and Judith Mueller Stadium.
