09/10/2024 Fulton, MO- In their home opener on September 10, 2024, the Westminster College Lady Jays faced a dominating Washington University squad, falling 3-0 at Kent & Judith Mueller Stadium. The game marked Westminster's first loss of the season, bringing their record to 1-1-1, while the #2 nationally ranked Washington University continue their unbeaten streak, advancing to 4-0-0. 

Washington University's offense dominated the match from the start, maintaining possession and consistently pressuring Westminster's defense. Kerrigan Ferland opened the scoring in the 34th minute assisted by Kate Martin, giving the Bears a 1-0 lead. The visitors capitalized on their momentum just before halftime, with Anna Rosato netting an unassisted goal, widening the gap to 2-0. 

The Lady Jays struggled to gain traction offensively, managing just three total shots, with only one on target, courtesy of forward Claire Sanders. Despite their defensive resilience, Washington University continued to test Westminster goalkeeper Reagan Chigas, who put in a commendable performance with 17 saves on the night. However, Chigas' efforts were not enough to stop the Bears' final goal, as Grace Ehlert scored in the 79th minute, assisted by Olivia Clemons, sealing a 3-0 victory for the visitors. 

Washington University's well-organized defense limited Westminster's opportunities, and the Blue Jays were unable to earn a single corner kick throughout the match. The Bears, meanwhile, racked up 34 shots and eight corner kicks, emphasizing their control of the game. 

Despite the loss, the Lady Jays showed moments of strong defensive play and determination. They will look to build on these positives as they prepare for their next match, Saturday September 14th at 3:00pm against Millikin University, back at Kent and Judith Mueller Stadium.
