09/25/2024 Fulton, MO- The Westminster College women's soccer team delivered an outstanding performance on Wednesday evening, securing a commanding 6-0 victory over Monmouth College (Ill.) at Kent & Judith Mueller Stadium.
From the opening whistle, Westminster asserted their dominance. In the 13th minute, sophomore defender Allie Auer opened the scoring—the first of her collegiate career. Just a minute later, senior midfielder Savannah Feltrop doubled the lead with another strike, marking her first goal of the season. The quick succession of goals set the tone for the remainder of the match.
The Blue Jays continued to apply relentless pressure throughout the first half. In the 38th minute, Bella Carter provided an assist to freshman Molly Angell, who found the back of the net to extend the lead to 3-0. Moments before halftime, freshman Brooke Yanskey notched her first goal of the season off an assist from Faith Coates, sending Westminster into the break with a 4-0 advantage.
Maintaining their momentum in the second half, Westminster continued to dominate possession and create scoring opportunities. In the 68th minute, forward Claire Sanders increased the lead to 5-0 with a well-placed goal—her second of the season. The final tally came in the 80th minute when Stasha Deters scored her first goal of the year.
Defensively, the Blue Jays were impenetrable. Goalkeeper Mia Turner secured the shutout without facing a single shot on goal, thanks to a cohesive defensive effort that stifled Monmouth's attack throughout the game. The Blue Jays limited the Fighting Scots to just three shots, none of which were on target.
Statistically, Westminster dominated every aspect of the game. They outshot Monmouth 29-3, including a 16-0 advantage in shots on goal. The Blue Jays also earned five corner kicks, while the Fighting Scots had none.
Westminster aims to carry this momentum forward as they begin conference action. The Blue Jays will head to Carlinville, IL to face Blackburn College on Saturday September 28th in their first conference matchup of the season.
