Dubuque, IA, 9/18/21 – Day two of the Loras Invite/UD River City Classic did not start off well for the Westminster College volleyball team. They were facing the St. Olaf College Oles and the Oles were firing on all cylinders as they defeated the Blue Jays (16-25, 9-25, 13-25) The loss drops the Blue Jays to 2-8 overall. St. Olaf improves to 3-6 on the year.
The Blue Jays were paced by Eryka Wanyonyi (Columbia, MO / Hickman) with six kills. Gretchen Durbala (Burlington, IA / Burlington) contributed eight assists to lead the team. Erica Schrader (Imperial, MO / St. Pius X) led the defense with 12 digs and Claire Whitehouse (St. Louis, MO / Parkway Central) led at the net with five total blocks. Schrader also recorded two service aces.
The Blue Jays will wrap up the tournament this afternoon when they will take on Grinnell College. The game is scheduled for a first serve at 2:00 p.m.
