Blue Jays Defeated By NAIA William Woods

Fulton, MO, 10/13/21 – The Westminster College volleyball team welcomed their crosstown neighbors NAIA William Woods University to Historic Gym on Wednesday night.  The Blue Jays would fight but the Owls would prevail in three sets 3-0 (25-27, 17-25, 19-25) The loss ended the Blue Jays eight game winning streak and dropped their overall record to 10-10 while they remain 6-1 in the SLIAC.  The Owls would improve to 15-7 overall. 

The Blue Jay attack was led by junior middle Payton Bledsoe (Mexico, MO / Mexico) who tallied nine kills and hit a team high .412.  Hayle Menke (O'Fallon, MO / Fort Zumwalt South) and Eryka Wanyonyi (Columbia, MO / Hickman) each tallied seven kills.  Senior setter Gretchen Durbala (Burlington, IA / Burlington) recorded 27 assists to lead the Jays.  Erica Schrader (Imperial, MO / St. Pius X) led the defense with nine digs followed by Wanyonyi and Durbala with eight each.  Schrader would lead the Blue Jays with three service aces.

The Blue Jays will be back in action this weekend with three games at the Millikin 5 State Classic in Decatur, Illinois. They will take on Albion College at Millikin University on Friday night at 7:00 p.m.  Saturday the Blue Jays will take on Simpson College at 1:00 p.m. and then they will take on the host school Millikin University at 3:00 p.m.
