9/19/24 Fulton, MO - The Westminster Women's Volleyball team secured their first conference win of the season in dominant fashion, sweeping Blackburn College 3-0 in their SLIAC opener: 25-18, 25-14, 25-21. The Blue Jays displayed their balanced attack and defensive strength in their victory, which took place on the road at Blackburn College.
The Blue Jays started strong, winning the first set 25-18, and continued to control the match with a commanding 25-14 win in the second set. Though the Beavers fought back in the third set, the Blue Jays held their ground, closing out the set 25-21 to sweep the match.
Kylie Hasselbacher led Westminster's offensive charge with 17 kills and an impressive .536 hitting percentage, while Meghan Nolte contributed 10 kills and a .333 hitting percentage. Katelynn Jackson also played a pivotal role with 8 kills, and Madisyn Ellis added 5 kills, hitting .313. On defense, Haylie Schnake was a standout with 22 digs, while Emma Behrmann recorded 25 assists, leading the Blue Jays' attack.
With this win, Westminster improved to 5-11 overall and 1-0 in SLIAC play. The Blue Jays will look to continue their momentum in their upcoming Homecoming Tri match this Saturday at 10AM and 2PM, in Historic Gym on Westminster's campus.
