Westminster Baseball Sweeps Iowa Wesleyan

MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa - Westminster baseball tallied a three-game sweep over Iowa Wesleyan to open the conference season.

The Blue Jays are off to an 8-3 start with the three wins. 

Westminster won the first game 6-2 with Alex Dickneite taking the win on the mound. Ryan Gvillo and Nick Cessna each added RBI to help Westminster to a victory. 

In the second game, Westminster exploded offensively to take a 12-0 victory and earn their second win of the day.

Sam Huesgen earned the win, pitching the complete game shutout, giving up six hits while striking out seven. 

Cessna went 2-5 at the plate, recording four RBI which included a homerun. Wyatt Ahart added three RBI.

Westminster opened up game three with a homerun in the first inning from Will Stonecipher. Gvillo and Tanner Branneky each added homeruns of their own in the game, helping Westminster to a 13-8 win to take the series. 

Thomas Kinney started on the mound for the Blue Jays, giving up five runs on four hits and striking out five. Brett Denney and Justin Riggins came in to close out the game for Westminster. 

The Blue Jays travel to Louisville Saturday, March 25, to continue SLIAC play against Spalding for a weekend three-game series.
