Westminster Baseball Falls in SLIAC Championship

GREENVILLE, Ill. - Westminster baseball fell to Greenville 8-6 in the SLIAC Championship game.

The Blue Jays conclude their season with an overall record of 21-13.

Westminster got out to a quick start thanks to the hot bat of Nick Cessna. In the second inning, he hit a two-run blast to get on the board first, and then added an RBI single in the third to expand the Westminster lead. Ryan Gvillo added an RBI in the third to go up 4-0.

The Panthers pieced together several hits and scored twice on wild pitches in the fifth to go up 5-4 on Westminster, but the Blue Jays went up 6-5 on a double from Blake Strebler that scored Nick Bohlmann and Adam Mundle

A three-run bottom of the seventh inning from Greenville was the final strike to ultimately give the Panthers the win.

Four pitchers took the mound for Westminster, including a start from Nick Bohannan. It was Tanner Branneky who ultimately took the loss after taking over for Justin Riggins

Sam Huesgen, Alex Dickneite, and Ryan Gvillo were named to the All-Tournament team for their efforts during the tournament.
