FULTON, Mo. - Blake Strebler hit a walk-off sacrifice fly to help the Blue Jays to a win in game one, while Ryan Gvillo hit a two-run blast in the eighth during game two to solidify the Westminster sweep of MacMurray.
Westminster improves to 16-8 on the year with the win, including 11-5 in the conference, keeping their No. 2 spot in the West Division behind Webster.
Alex Dickneite started on the mound for Westminster, pitching all seven innings and giving up four runs on six hits. He improves to 6-2 on the year with the win.
After going down 2-0 after the first two innings, Tanner Branneky hit his first solo shot of the day to put the Blue Jays on the board in the second.
A big sixth inning led to two more runs for Westminster off the bats of Nick Cessna and Gvillo to give the Blue Jays to 3-2 advantage. The Highlanders added two runs in the seventh to put the lead back in their favor.
With Westminster's last chance, the Blue Jays pieced together enough hits to come back with two runs and the win. Nick Bohlmann hit an RBI single for the tie, while Strebler's sacrifice fly to center field scored Adam Mundle, giving Westminster the win in game one in walk-off fashion.
In game two, Sam Huesgen started on the mound but came out after five innings and giving up four runs.
Justin Riggins pitched four relief innings, giving up just one run and earning the win for Westminster.
After going down 2-0, Branneky again put Westminster on the board with a solo shot in the fourth. The Highlanders extended their lead to 5-1 in the fifth, but the Blue Jay bats got hot in the sixth.
Branneky, Gvillo, and Will Stonecipher all added RBI singles to tie the game at four.
MacMurray added their final run in the seventh to go up 5-4, but Gvillo came up to the plate in the eighth with Branneky on base after a deep double of his own. Gvillo hit a long ball to left field, staying just fair, to give Westminster lead at 6-5.
Riggins came in the ninth to earn three more outs and give the Blue Jays the win.
The Blue Jays will face Webster at home April 29 for a doubleheader starting at noon.
