1/17/25 Fulton, MO – The Westminster men's volleyball team continued their inaugural season with a split on Friday, defeating North Park University 3-1 in a hard-fought match before falling to Concordia University Chicago in straight sets.
Match 1: vs North Park University (3-1)
Westminster opened the day with a 3-1 victory over North Park (25-23, 31-33, 25-22, 25-18), displaying depth and determination across all four sets. Luke Rohrbach led the team with a standout performance, recording 10 kills, eight blocks, and 14 points while hitting an impressive .500. Dalio Taouil added 10 kills and 13 digs, contributing 11.5 points, while Aidan Ortmann posted nine kills and 12.5 points. Jake Schawo-McAlister dished out 40 assists and Ryan Rhodes anchored the defense with 20 digs. Contributions from Derrick Turner (7 kills, 8.5 points) and Connor Layman (8 kills, 9 points) helped propel Westminster to the win.
Match 2: vs Concordia University Chicago (0-3)
In their second match of the day, the Blue Jays struggled to find their rhythm, falling to Concordia Chicago in straight sets (19-25, 21-25, 19-25). Westminster's offense was led by Ortmann, who recorded seven kills and six digs, while Rohrbach added three kills, four blocks, and seven points. Taouil contributed three kills and four digs, though the Blue Jays were unable to overcome Concordia's strong defense and efficient attacking. Schawo-McAlister tallied 19 assists and nine digs, and Khalil Peterson posted three kills and two blocks to round out the team's efforts.
Westminster ends the day with a 4-2 record as they continue to navigate their inaugural season. The Blue Jays aim to bounce back quickly, traveling to Illinois to face Augustana College on Saturday, January 18. With strong performances and valuable experience gained, Westminster remains focused on building momentum in their historic first year of competition.
