Blue Jays Dominant In Road Win

Jacksonville, Ill., March 30, 2021 – The Westminster College women's soccer team exploded for a season high eight goals on Tuesday night on the road.  The Blue Jays travelled to Illinois College and made themselves right at home with a convincing 8-0 victory.  The win pushes their record to 4-1 on the season and 3-1 in SLIAC play.  They currently sit in third place in the SLIAC.

The Blue Jays got the scoring of and running in the 19th minute when Kelsey Gordon took a pass from Natalie Schulte and beat the IC keeper for a 1-0 lead. It was the start of a great night for Gordon.  Lauren Halamicek would get into the scoring column in the 25th minute thanks to a built-up attack from Rachel Nolte and Jenna Frisella found Halamicek who ripped a shot from just outside the box for the goal to make it 2-0.

Madi Lenk would make her presence known in the 35th minute scoring an unassisted goal to push the lead to 3-0.  Gordon would get back in the scoring column with her second goal of the match in the 40th minute off of a penalty kick.  Rachel Nolte was tackled in the box to get the PK for Westminster. The score was 4-0 heading into halftime.

The second half would open with both teams searching for a goal. The Blue Jays, like in the first half got the scoring going first in the 70th minute when Gordon would take a pass from Schulte and score her third goal of the game to make it 5-0.  One minute later Schulte would make and awesome run with the ball dribbling through the IC defense and finishing past the IC keeper far post and into the net to make it 6-0.  Halamicek scored her second goal of the game in the 75th minute.  Chance Estrada capped the goal scoring for the Jays in the 86th minute when she scored her first career collegiate goal to bring the score to 8-0 the final.

The Blue Jays outshot Illinois College 32-3. The Jays also took seven corner kicks to IC's 0.  It was a dominating performance by the Blue Jays.

Megan Davidson faced two shots on goal and made both saves as she recorded her third shutout of the season.

The Blue Jays will be back in action on Saturday evening at home.  The Jays host Fontbonne University at 5:00 p.m.
