Blue Jays Dominate Second Half to Defeat Principia

01/21/2025 Elsah, IL- Westminster College secured a much-needed 85-75 victory over Principia College on January 21, showcasing a strong team effort in the second half to overcome a five-point halftime deficit. Trailing 37-32 at the break, the Blue Jays found their rhythm offensively, outscoring Principia 53-38 in the final 20 minutes. Westminster's efficient shooting and composure at the free-throw line were key, as they finished the game shooting 47.6% from the field and an impressive 82.6% from the charity stripe. 

Walker Gohring delivered a standout performance, leading the team with 20 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists in 36 minutes of play. Luke Abeln was a force in the paint, recording a double-double with 15 points and eight rebounds, while Gavin Hendrix and Ben Eberlin provided crucial contributions off the bench, combining for 16 points and nine rebounds. The bench played a pivotal role, outscoring Principia's 27-22, and adding energy and depth in key moments. 

Defensively, Westminster made their presence felt with seven blocks and solid rebounding, pulling down 40 boards overall. Their ability to contest shots and limit Principia's interior scoring played a significant role in the victory.  

The Blue Jays will look to carry this momentum into their next conference matchup on Saturday, January 25th, against the Eureka College Red Devils. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00PM in Eureka, IL.
