02/13/2025 Fulton, MO- Westminster College delivered a strong performance on both ends of the floor, defeating Fontbonne University 77-60 in front of their home crowd on Friday night. The Blue Jays set the tone early, taking control in the first half with a 38-22 lead. They maintained their composure in the second half, outscoring Fontbonne 39-38 to secure the conference win.
Westminster's dominance on the boards proved to be a key factor in the victory, as they outrebounded Fontbonne 66-43, including 18 offensive rebounds that led to valuable second-chance points. Walker Gohring led the way with an impressive double-double, scoring a game-high 19 points while pulling down 13 rebounds and adding four assists. Kolton Garner provided a spark from beyond the arc, knocking down four three-pointers on his way to 14 points. Jamile Johnson was a force in the paint, recording a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, while Luke Abeln added 10 points and nine rebounds. Gavin Hendrix also contributed with seven points and five rebounds off the bench.
Defensively, the Blue Jays kept Fontbonne in check, holding the Griffins to just 30% shooting from the field and 23.3% from three-point range. Westminster's interior presence also played a role, limiting Fontbonne's second-chance opportunities and forcing tough shots throughout the game. While the Blue Jays shot 39.7% overall and 26.7% from deep, their ability to control the tempo and capitalize on extra possessions made the difference.
With the win, Westminster picks up another conference victory and will look to carry this momentum into their next matchup.
