12/08/2014 Fulton, MO- Westminster College's men's basketball team fell to Lyon College 85-69 on December 7, 2024, despite a competitive first half. The Blue Jays trailed by just four points at halftime, 34-30, but struggled in the second half, allowing Lyon to pull away with a 51-39 advantage in the final period.
Walker Gohring was the standout player for Westminster, leading the team with 19 points, including three 3-pointers. Despite his offensive effort, the Blue Jays shot just 39.7% from the field and 34.6% from beyond the arc, which hindered their ability to close the gap in the second half. Ben Eberlin contributed 8 points and 5 rebounds, providing a spark off the bench. Despite tough shooting performances from Luke Abeln (1-9) and Lee Verslues (0-4), the Blue Jays showed resilience, especially in their rebounding, where they gathered 37 total boards.
Westminster also struggled with ball control, finishing the game with 16 turnovers, which Lyon capitalized on to extend their lead. The Blue Jays found success in stretches, but inconsistency in both shooting and decision-making ultimately cost them the game.
Looking ahead, Westminster will need to focus on improving their shooting efficiency and limiting turnovers as they prepare for future matchups. The team will have time to regroup and prepare before heading to California for matchups against the University of La Verne on December 16 and Caltech on December 17.
