Westminster Battles Hard Against Greenville in High-Scoring Contest

01/08/2025 Fulton, MO- The Westminster Blue Jays put forth a strong offensive effort but ultimately fell short in a high-scoring 115-102 contest against Greenville University on January 9th, at Historic Gym. Despite the loss, the Blue Jays showcased their depth, with five players scoring in double figures and a second-half surge that saw them outscore Greenville 59-57.

Leading the charge for Westminster was Luke Abeln, who tallied 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting, including 5-of-6 from the free-throw line. Jack Fessenden also contributed 15 points, sinking four three-pointers to keep the Blue Jays in contention. Off the bench, Sean LaRose provided a boost with 13 points, shooting 5-of-7 overall and connecting on both of his attempts from beyond the arc. Jamile Johnson added 12 points and five rebounds, while Kobe Jones dished out a team-high seven assists to facilitate the offense.

The Blue Jays shot an impressive 45.2% from the field and moved the ball effectively, recording 22 assists as a team. They also controlled the boards, outrebounding Greenville 43-34, with Gavin Hendrix pulling down a team-high eight rebounds. However, turnovers proved costly, as Westminster's 30 giveaways allowed Greenville to create transition opportunities that ultimately made the difference in the game. Additionally, the Blue Jays struggled to find consistency from three-point range, shooting 29.2% from beyond the arc.

Despite the outcome, Westminster's performance highlighted their offensive potential and ability to compete in high-energy matchups. The Blue Jays will look to build on this effort as they prepare for their next game on Saturday, January 11th, at Blackburn College. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00PM.
