02/15/2025 Louisville, KY- Westminster College struggled on the road against Spalding University, falling 83-53 in a conference matchup on Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays fell behind early as Spalding built a 43-27 halftime lead and continued to control the game in the second half.
Walker Gohring led Westminster with 17 points on 7-for-13 shooting while also grabbing six rebounds and dishing out three assists. Gavin Hendrix provided a strong presence in the paint, finishing with 15 points and a team-high nine rebounds. Kolton Garner added five points and four rebounds, while Sean LaRose and Lee Verslues each chipped in with four and three points, respectively.
The Blue Jays struggled to find their rhythm offensively, shooting 40.4% from the field and just 23.1% from three-point range. Spalding, on the other hand, shot 52.6% overall and capitalized on their opportunities at the free-throw line, making 17 of 22 attempts. Westminster also had trouble taking care of the ball, committing 16 turnovers that led to easy points for the Golden Eagles.
Despite the loss, Westminster showed resilience in stretches, but they were unable to overcome Spalding's efficient offense and defensive pressure. The Blue Jays will look to regroup as they continue their conference schedule back at home on Tuesday, February 18th, against Principia College. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30PM.
