02/05/2025 Fulton, MO- In a game dedicated to raising awareness and support for the fight against cancer, Westminster College came out on top in a tightly contested matchup against Blackburn, earning a 77-73 victory at home on Coaches vs. Cancer Night.
The Blue Jays controlled much of the game, shooting an efficient 53.6% from the field and winning the rebounding battle 44-28, which proved crucial down the stretch. Westminster took a 38-34 lead into halftime and maintained their composure in the second half despite pressure from Blackburn, who remained within striking distance.
Walker Gohring led Westminster with a standout performance, posting 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 7 assists, showcasing his ability to impact the game in multiple ways. Kolton Garner was sharp from beyond the arc, knocking down four three-pointers on his way to 16 points. Jamile Johnson was a force in the paint, contributing 11 points, 8 rebounds, and a game-high 7 blocks, anchoring the Blue Jays' defense. Gavin Hendrix provided a strong presence off the bench, adding 12 points on 6-of-8 shooting.
Westminster took a 38-34 lead into halftime and kept their composure in the second half, making key plays down the stretch to secure the win. The Blue Jays' defensive effort, ball movement, and rebounding proved to be the difference as they picked up an important home victory.
