St. Louis, MO 11/1/2022- The Westminster College men's soccer team traveled to St. Louis Tuesday afternoon for a SLIAC Men's Soccer Tournament quarterfinal matchup against the Fontbonne University Griffins. The Griffins and the Blue Jays are the four and five seeds, respectively. The two teams had just played each other this past Saturday to a 1-1 tie and the Griffins defeated the Jays 2-1 in their game earlier this season at Westminster.

Fontbonne would score early in the game going up 1-0 in the eleventh minute of the game and would take that lead heading into halftime. The Blue Jays responded in the second half with a goal by freshman forward Travis Bieg (Villa Ridge, MO / Washington) off an assist by Colin Murray (St. Peters, Mo. / Fort Zumwalt West) and Kaedyn Royer (Thayer, IL / North Mac). The goal would be Bieg's third of the season as he tied the game 1-1 in the fifty-eighth minute.

Disaster would strike a couple of minutes later as the Blue Jays committed a foul in the box that resulted in a penalty kick. The Griffins would not squander the opportunity, as they scored the penalty kick and took a 2-1 lead with twenty-eight minutes to play.  Fontbonne would hold on to that lead and end Westminster's season with a final score of 2-1. The Griffins move on to the semifinals and the Jays return to Fulton with their season in the books.

The Blue Jays end the season 3-1-5 overall and 3-6-5 in the conference.

Westminster College congratulates the men's soccer team on a great season and their four seniors Parker Jett (Lake of the Ozarks, MO / Fort Osage), Rhys Proffitt (Rolla, MO / Rolla), Collin Murray (St. Peters, Mo. / Fort Zumwalt West), Samuel Brown (Greenbriar, Arkansas / Greenbrier) on their distinguished careers as Blue Jays and wishes them luck as they wrap up their senior year and start their professional careers in their various fields.
