Fulton, MO 10/19/2022- The Westminster men's soccer team hosted the Greenville University Panthers on Wednesday. The Panthers would defeat the Blue Jays 1-0 after a goal late in the second half. The Blue Jays fall to 3-10-2 on the year and 3-6-2 in the SLIAC. The Panthers improve to 6-3-5 on the season and 6-1-4 in the SLIAC. The Panthers currently hold the number two spot in the conference and the Blue Jays are number five with three games left to play in the regular season.

The Panthers would score the go-ahead goal in the 67th minute to take a 1-0 lead late in the second half. The Blue Jays would have an opportunity to tie the game a minute later after a penalty was called. Niklas Olsson (Kansas City, MO / Liberty) would take the penalty shot for the Blue Jays. He would take a shot left and the Panthers goalie would make a great save to deny the game-tying goal. The Blue Jays would get a corner kick after the shot went out of play. They would be unable to capitalize on it as the Greenville defense would clear the threat.

Clem Mahoro (Fulton, MO / Fulton) would get a good look at the goal in the 86th minute but the Panthers goalie would deny the Blue Jays again. The Blue Jays attack had 10 shots in the game with six of them being on goal.

Toby Hughes (Jefferson City, MO / Jefferson City) would make ten saves in goal for Westminster.

The Blue Jays will be back in action on Saturday, October 22nd when they take on Spalding University. That game will kick off in Louisville, Kentucky at 2:00 PM CST.
