Blue Jays Down Panthers 2-1

Elsah, IL 10/11/2022- The Westminster College men's soccer team traveled to Elsah, Illinois to take on the Principia College Panthers. The Blue Jays would come away with a 2-1 victory after scoring the go-ahead goal in the 82nd minute. They improve to 3-8-2 on the season and 3-4-2 in the SLIAC. The Panthers drop to 5-4-3 on the season and 3-4-2 in the SLIAC.

The Panthers would strike first scoring within the first five minutes of the game to take an early 1-0 lead. Nolan Deane (Eureka, MO / Eureka) would score the equalizer in the 35th minute of the first half to tie the game 1-1.

Niklas Olsson (Kansas City, MO / Liberty) would give Westminster the lead late scoring a goal off the assist from Adam Luetkemeyer (Wentzville, MO / Timberland). He would give the Blue Jays a 2-1 lead with eight minutes left to play in the game. They would hold off the Panthers, who had good scoring opportunities in the 88th minute and win the game to a final score of 2-1.

Toby Hughes (Jeffserson City, MO/ Jefferson City) got the start in goal for the Jays, and he would make seven saves on eight attempts. 

The Blue Jays would take ten shots in the game with six of them being on goal.

Westminster will be back in action on Saturday, October 15th when they take on Webster University in Fulton. It will be Senior Day at Blue Jay Field and kick-off is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
