Lutz and Shoemaker Break Fielding Records At CMU Invitational

Senior Michael Lutz and freshman Logan Shoemaker each broke a fielding record in the Westminster men's track and field's seventh place finish at the CMU Invitational hosted by Central Methodist on Friday, April 3. 

Lutz shattered his previously held hammer throw record, throwing 41.21-meters. His eighth place finish was six meters over the previous record. 

Shoemaker broke the shotput record, throwing a meter over the record. His 14.26-meter throw landed him in third place, earning the team six points. 

A handful of other Blue Jays competed in the hammer throw and shotput, including junior Christian Houston and freshman Sam Kroll-Taugsolo. Houston threw 11.36-meters (15th) in the shotput and 28.72-meters (17th) in the hammer throw. Kroll-Taugsolo threw 11.65-meters (13th) in the shotput and 26.18-meters (19th) in the hammer throw. Competing solely in the shotput were senior Louvis Johnson (10.49m- 18th) and freshman Jaleel Hood (7.42m- 29th). 

Lutz and Shoemaker also threw discus, placing 17th (29.15m) and 20th (27.46m), respectively. 

Three Blue Jays threw javelin toward the end of the meet. Junior Bret Robertson finished in third place with his 46.47-meter throw, earning the team six points. Kroll-Taugsolo placed fifth with a 41.35-meter throw, adding four more points to the team score. Sophomore Ryan Dyer also threw, placing ninth with a 34.41-meter throw. 

The Blue Jays totaled 25 points on the track side through five field events and six runners. 

Freshman Glenn Teubner started the track events for the Blue Jays in the 3000-meter steeplechase. He finished in third place with a time of 10:38.62, earning six points. 

In the 5000-meter run, junior Jesse Edwards and senior Daniel Lindaman finished near the front. Edwards took second place with his 16:28.28 time, and Lindaman placed third with a time of 16:40.55. Combined, the two earned 14 points.

Dyer grabbed the final five points for the Blue Jays with is fourth place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:02.23.

Also competing for the Blue Jays was senior Dan Breihan in the 400-meter dash (54.64- 11th) and freshman Addison Conway in the 400-meter hurdles (1:09.72- 11th).

Westminster will participate in the WJC Darrel Gourley Open at William Jewell College on Saturday, April 11.
