Blue Jays Place Third In SLIAC Invitational

The Westminster men's track and field team placed third in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Invitational on Saturday, April 24. They had ten top three finishes to tally 89 points.

Track

Freshman Glenn Teubner took second place in the 3000-meter steeplechase with his 10:42.68 time, earning the team eight points. Freshman Chandler Yeary finished shortly after, placing third in 11:05.38.

In the 5000-meter run, senior Daniel Lindaman placed third out of nine with a time of 16:33.88. Junior Jesse Edwards finished just seconds later, placing fourth in 16:38.30.

Freshman Addison Conway took third place in the 400-meter hurdles with a finish time of 1:01.70. The other track event that placed in the top three was the 4x400-meter relay team. Senior Dan Breihan, sophomore Tj Tjikuzu, Conway and sophomore Ryan Dyer placed third out of six teams with their 3:39.26 time. 

The 4x100-meter relay team and Edwards each grabbed fourth place finishes in their events. The 4x100-meter relay team, comprised of Breihan, junior Bret Robertson, Tjikuzu and Conway, placed fourth with a time of 46.50. Edwards completed the 10,000-meter run in 33:42.66, placing fourth out of eight.

Rounding out the track events were Dyer in the 800-meter dash and Breihan in the 400-meter dash. Dyer placed fifth out of 21 competitors with a time of 2:01.76. Breihan placed fifth with a time of 53.75. 

 

Field

The Blue Jays' other five top three finishes came from field events. 

Conway took second place in the triple jump with his 11.54-meter jump, while Breihan came in third with an 11.45-meter jump.

Robertson and freshman Sam Kroll-Taugsolo placed second and third, respectively, in the javelin throw out of nine throwers. Robertson threw 13.55-meters while Kroll-Taugsolo threw 47.75-meters. Dyer also threw, placing eighth (31.54m).

Freshman Logan Shoemaker threw 13.55-meters in the shot put, taking second place out of 11 throwers. Kroll-Taugsolo took fourth place with a 12.55-meter throw, earning the team four points. 

Rounding out the field events were senior Michael Lutz in the hammer throw and discus. He placed sixth out of 16 in the hammer throw with a 40.97-meter throw and 11th (29.33m) in the discus. Freshman Jaleel Hood also threw discus, placing 12th with a 26.83-meter throw.
