Lutz Establishes Record At Snow Bird Open

The Westminster men's track and field team placed 13th at the Snow Bird Open hosted by Illinois College on Saturday.

Senior Michael Lutz became the first Blue Jay in program history to throw the weight throw at the meet, establishing the new record with a 10.45 meter throw. 

In the Field

Junior Bret Robertson, senior Dan Breihan and junior CJ Vaughan each competed in the long jump. Robertson placed 17th with a 5.59m jump, while Breihan and Vaughan placed 20th and 21st with a 5.18m and a 5.09m jump, respectively. 

Freshman Logan Shoemaker looked to improve on last week's record breaking meet in the shot put. He came up short, throwing 12.92m. The throw earned him a 10th place spot out of 41. Lutz also threw shot put, throwing 10.03m. 

On the Track

The Blue Jays had four compete in the 60-meter dash. Freshman Latif Adams crossed the line first for the Blue Jays with a time of 7.63 and a 31st place finish. Breihan immediately followed, finishing in 7.80 with a 33rd place finish. Vaughan and Robertson closed out the race for the Blue Jays, placing 40th (7.92) and 44th (8.12), respectively. 

In the 200-meter dash, Adams and Robertson finished one right after another. Adams placed 46th with a time of 26.35, and Robertson placed 50th, crossing in 26.53 seconds. 

Senior Daniel Lindaman and freshman Chandler Yeary ran the mile, and Lindaman took fourth out of 24 with a 4:41.76 time. Yeary placed 11th with a 4:55.43 time.

Freshman Glenn Teubner looked to break the 3000-meter run record he set last week, but he came up two seconds short. He placed fourth out of 19 with a 9:26.01 time. Junior Jesse Edwards placed eighth with a time of 9:34.53, and Lindaman took 14th with a 9:46.93 time.

Rounding out the track competitions was the distance medley team comprised of Edwards, Yeary, sophomore Ryan Dyer and Lindaman. The Blue Jays placed fifth with a final time of 11:35.10.

 

The Blue Jays will compete in the Prin Relays on Friday, January 30, in Elsah, Illinois.
