The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) announced the players of the week for the week of March 30-April 5, and Westminster College had four athletes receiving the award. The award winners for Westminster include freshman jumper Anna Houston, junior distance runner Brier Skogsberg, freshman thrower Logan Shoemaker and sophomore pitcher Alyson Hahn.
Houston, a freshman from Union, Mo., had a busy day at the CMU Invitational setting three school records while competing in four events. Houston grabbed first place in the triple jump with a distance of 10.61 meters and added a second place finish in the long jump with a distance of 4.98 meters. Houston took third place in the 100 meter hurdles, finishing with a time of 15.30 seconds and wrapped up her day with a fourth place finish in the high jump, with a mark of 1.45 meters. Houston set Westminster records in the triple jump, high jump, and 100 meter hurdles.
Skogsberg, a junior from Kirksville, Mo., took third place in the 5000 meter run while competing at the Central Methodist University Invitational over the weekend. Skogsberg finished with a time of 19:39.65, which is the sixth best time in the SLIAC this season.
Shoemaker, a freshman from Owensville, Mo., set a school record in the shot put this weekend, finishing in third place at the CMU Invitational. Shoemaker threw a distance of 14.26 meters, besting the previous school record by over a meter. His distance currently ranks second in the SLIAC this season.
Hahn, a sophomore from O'Fallon, Mo., had a hand in all four of her team's wins last week, recording three wins and one save. Hahn notched two complete games, coming in game one of both double header series for the Blue Jays. She went five innings and allowed just four hits with four strikeouts in shutout win over Iowa Wesleyan. In game two she threw three innings of relief, allowing just one hit, while notching the save. In her team's series against Grinnell Hahn went seven innings and recorded two strikeouts while picking up the win. She returned in game two to throw four innings of relief and limit Grinnell to five hits while recording the win. On the week Hahn finished with a 2.95 earned-run average and 12 strikeouts in 19 innings pitched with just two walks.
