Blue Jays Swept By Stars

Columbia, Mo 9/9/2023- The Westminster College volleyball team was back on Saturday after taking a short trip to Columbia, Missouri to square off against the Stephens College Stars. The Blue Jays would battle but would end up being swept by the Stars 3-0 (20-25,18-25,22-25) and fall to 1-4 on the young season, while Stephens College improved to 5-4.

The Blue Jays would be led offensively by Malena Bixby, who had a relatively quiet day by her standards, recording nine kills and six digs in the match. Kylie Hasslebacher would also have nine kills in the match. The Jays libero, Kirsten Schrader, would pick up seventeen digs and their setter Caitlyn Wheadon would have twenty-two assists on the day.

Westminster would struggle offensively with a hitting percentage of .071 % compared to the Stars .168%. The Blue Jays committed twenty hitting errors and gave up six service aces.

The Blue Jays will be back action next weekend when they travel to Dubuque, Iowa to compete in the Loras College Tournament on September 15-16. They play St. Scholastica on Friday the 15th at 5:00 P.M.
