Blue Jays Win Two Games At Principia College Tri-Match

Elsah, IL 10/22/2023- The Westminster College volleyball team was on the road for another Saturday tri-match, this time at Principia College in Elsah, Illinois. The Blue Jays would play the Scots of Lyon College in game one and then the hosts, the Principia College Panthers, in the second game. Westminster would sweep both games 3-0 to improve to 14-11 on the year and 9-4 in the SLIAC, currently sitting in fourth place overall with the season beginning to wind down.  

Game 1 vs Lyon: Box Score 

The Westminster College Blue Jays took on the Lyon College Scots for the first time in the SLIAC in the first game of the Principia tri-match. Set one was a back-and-forth affair between two of the top teams in the conference. The Blue Jays would get a 21-19 lead and win the set 25-22. The Jays would dominate set two, 25-15, and win the third set 25-19 to sweep the Scots and win the match 3-0. 

Middle hitter, Meghan Nolte, led the Blue Jay offense with eleven kills and Kylie Hasselbacher would also have double-digit kills with ten. Libero, Kirsten Schrader, led all diggers with a game-high fifteen digs. Braylee Montgomery dictated the pace from the setter position with thirty-one assists. 

Game 2 vs Principia: Box Score  

The Blue Jays would turn around and take on the hosts, the Principia College Panthers. The Blue Jays would win the match in straight sets, 25-15, 25-18, 25-18 to secure another sweep and go 6-0 on the day. 

Katelynn Jackson led the game with twelve kills, while Haylie Schnake and Anna Wekenborg had eight kills for the Blue Jay team. Jackson would also have three service aces in the game. Gracie Henrikson had seventeen digs, two aces, and two assists for the Blue Jays. Caitlyn Wheadon had ten assists as the setter, Elle Turner had nine assists, and Abby Nelp had seven. The Blue Jays used three-setters in the match. 

The Blue Jays will be back in action on Tuesday, October 24th, against the Beavers of Blackburn College. The game will begin at 7:00 p.m. in Carlinville, Illinois.
