Blue Jays Split Greenville Tri-Match

Greenville, Illinois 9/30/2023- The Westminster College volleyball team traveled to Greenville, Illinois on Saturday to partake in the Greenville Tri-Match and face off against conference foes, Greenville University and Principia College. The Blue Jays would play Greenville in the first match and would take a set off the Panthers but would go down 3-1 (22-25,25-19,23-25,17-25). Westminster would turn right around and sweep Principia 3-0 (25-17,25-19,25-15). The Blue Jays moved to 8-8 overall and 4-1 in the SLIAC. 

Game One vs. Greenville: Box Score 

The Blue Jays and Panthers, both undefeated, would face each other for the first time since Westminster defeated Greenville in last year's tournament semi-final. Coming into the game on Saturday, both teams were 3-0 in the SLIAC in 2023. Set one was back and forth with Greenville able to hold on and win the set 25-22. The Blue Jays would come back and win set two 25-19. The Panthers would then win two straight sets 25-23,25-17 and win the match 3-1. 

Kylie Hasselbacher would lead the Blue Jays offense with fifteen kills in the match and would also have four blocks in the game. Malena Bixby also had double-digit kills with twelve and she would lead the team in digs with twenty-two. Kirsten Schrader would pick up nineteen digs as well. Westminster would continue to run their two-setter offense, with Braylee Montgomery having sixteen assists and Caitlyn Wheadon having fifteen in the game. 

Game Two vs. Principia: Box Score 

The Blue Jays would not have much time to lick their wounds. Principia would take the court and would go down in straight sets to Westminster (25-17,25-19,25-15). 

A lot of different Blue Jays would get involved in this one, with nine different Blue Jays recording a kill in the game. Meghan Nolte led the way with six kills on six attempts. Mattie Trudo led the Jays in digs with thirteen. Westminster would have fifteen service aces; Kaitlyn Jackson would have five on her own. 

The Blue Jays will be back in action on Wednesday, October 4th when they head back to St. Louis to take on Webster University. That game will start at 7:00 PM in Grant Gym.
