Blue Jays Rally Falls Short

Fulton, Mo 10/13/2023- The Westminster College volleyball team hosted the Fontbonne University Griffins in an SLIAC showdown on Thursday night. The Blue Jays would jump out to an 11-2 lead in the set; however, the Griffins would come back to win set one 26-24. Fontbonne would also win set two, 25-16 to take a 2-0 lead in the match. The Blue Jays would rally to win the third set 25-20 and avoid the sweep. Westminster would keep it close in the fourth set but could not close the small lead that Fontbonne had built up. The Griffins would win the fourth set 25-18 and the match 3-1. Westminster falls to 11-10 on the season and 6-3 in the SLIAC. Fontbonne improves to 13-6 and 8-1 in the SLIAC. 

Malena Bixby led the Blue Jays with fifteen kills in the match and Kylie Hasselbacher added an additional twelve kills. Kirsten Schrader led all diggers with a game high nineteen digs. Braylee Montgomery had thirty-two assists and fourteen digs in the game. 

Westminster competes in the Spalding University tri-match this weekend in Louisville. They face the Golden Eagles in game one at 9:00 a.m.t on Saturday, October 14th. Then they will play the Eureka College Red Devils right after at 11:00 a.m. central time.
