Westminster Women's Basketball Falls to Webster

St. Louis, Mo. – The Westminster women's basketball team dropped a road St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup to Webster on Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays fall to 4-2 in SLIAC play and 5-8 overall with the loss.

The Gorloks opened the game on a 7-0 run before Makayla Jackson hit a jumper to put Westminster on the scoreboard. However, the Blue Jays could not keep up with the pace of the Gorloks and the first quarter ended with Webster holding a 24-15 lead. Sophomore forward Abby Nichols logged six of Westminster's points in the quarter.

In the second quarter the Gorloks' defense held the Blue Jays to just 11 points as Westminster shot 27.3 percent (3-11) from the field. The Gorloks shot 40 percent from the field (6-15) and added 14 points to take a 38-26 lead into halftime.

Both teams shot the ball well in the third quarter. The Blue Jays shot 60 percent (9-15) from the field and scored 24 points, nine of which came from junior guard Kallee Dowler. However, the Gorloks shot an impressive 80 percent in the quarter for 27 points to maintain their lead over the Blue Jays.

Webster outscored Westminster 21-16 in the final quarter to win the game 86-66 and extend their winning streak to three games.

Dowler was the leading scorer for the the Blue Jays with 21 points. Abbie Reece chipped in 13 points and added solid defensive stats with five steals and three blocks. Nichols added 10 points off the bench and grabbed five rebounds.

Next up the Blue Jays will return home to face Fontbonne on Wednesday evening.
