MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa – The Westminster women's basketball team earned a road win over Iowa Wesleyan on Wednesday night, defeating the Tigers 81-64 behind 19 points from Kallee Dowler and a double-double from Mikalyn Callahan.

The Blue Jays improve to 6-5 in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action with the win while the Tigers drop to 3-7.

The Tigers scored the first points of the game with a layup before the Blue Jays answered with a 10-2 run that featured four steals. The Tigers cut the lead to 10-7 with a trey but Makayla Jackson made a three-pointer to bring the lead back to six points. After another Tiger three-pointer, the Blue Jays closed out the quarter with seven unanswered points thanks to a three-pointer from Corrie Reece and Dowler and an Abby Nichols free throw.
The Tigers outscored the Blue Jays 16-12 in the second quarter to reduce Westminster's halftime lead to 32-26. Dowler accounted for six of her team's 12 points in the period by knocking down two three-pointers.

Westminster pulled away in the third quarter outscoring the Tigers 26-16 and grabbed twice as many rebounds (14-7) to take 58-42 into the final frame. Dowler and Nichols tallied six points apiece in the quarter for Westminster. The Blue Jays extended the lead to as much as 24 points in the fourth quarter and held off the Tigers to take the game 81-64 and snap a two-game losing streak.

Dowler led the Blue Jays with 19 points followed by Corrie Reece with 13, Nichols with 11 and Callahan with 10. Callahan recorded her fourth double-double of the season with a team-high 11 rebounds.

Westminster recorded a season-high 17 steals in the game, four of which came from Rei Imamura.

Next up the Blue Jays will return home to face Eureka on Saturday at 1:00 PM. The Blue Jays will be wearing gold shoelaces to raise awareness of pediatric cancer and fans are encouraged to bring donations of gift cards, pillows, stuffed animals, and blankets to benefit the Super Sam Foundation.
