The Westminster women's soccer team fell to Illinois College 2-0 on Sunday evening. The loss is the first of the season, bringing the Westminster Blue Jays to a 2-1 record.
The Blue Jays were unable to score in the first 45 minutes of play, despite taking 14 shots and five shots on goal. They held the Illinois College Lady Blues from taking a shot.
The Lady Blues put the ball over goalkeeper Ellen Woolsey's head on a free kick just four minutes into the second half to break the silence. The Blue Jays got off one shot before Illinois College netted their second goal in the 66th minute after winning a one-on-one with Woolsey.
The Blue Jays took four more shots with two being on goal throughout the second half, but they were unable to get past the Lady Blues' goalkeeper.
Freshman Gracie Koonce took five of the team's eight shots on goal.
Woolsey was credited with her first loss on the season. She grabbed two saves in her 90 minutes in the net while allowing two goals.
The Blue Jays host the University of the Ozarks (Ark.) for their 2015 home opener on Saturday, September 12. The first touch is at 5:00 p.m. at Fulton High School.
