Westminster Falls To Knox In Final Minutes, 3-2

The Westminster women's soccer team fell to Knox College in the final minutes of the game Sunday afternoon, 3-2. The loss brings the Westminster Blue Jays to 2-2-1 on the season.

The Blue Jays grabbed the early lead when senior Ashley Schimmel hit the the ball into the top left corner of the goal in the fifth minute. Sophomore Morgan Henry scored the next goal off a free kick in the 16th minute to go up 2-0. 

The Blue Jay defense held Knox from scoring until the Knox Prairie Fire took a high shot that landed in the back of the goal in the 27th minute. 

The Blue Jays took one more shot in the first half but the ball went wide, sending the game into halftime with Westminster leading 2-1.

Senior Eileen Koppy started the second half with a shot on goal, but Knox's goalkeeper was there to make the stop. The Prairie Fire quickly pushed the ball down the field and put a header ball into the right side of the goal to tie the game at 2-2 in the 48th minute.

Knox took two more shots on goal in the second half while the Blue Jays were unable to get a shot off. With 4:10 left on the clock, Knox crossed the ball and headed it in to take the 3-2 lead. Sophomore Payton Beeler took a shot on goal in the final seconds of the game, but Knox's goalkeeper grabbed it before Westminster could score.

The Blue Jays took 12 shots in the 3-2 loss including five shots on goal. 

Junior goalkeeper Ellen Woolsey (2-2-1) was credited with the loss. She faced eight shots on goal and allowed three goals in her 90 minutes in the net. 

The Blue Jays end their home stretch on Wednesday, September 16, as they host Central College (Iowa) at 6:00 p.m. at Fulton High School.
