Blue Jays Top Principia, 4-1

The Westminster women's soccer team topped Principia College 4-1 on Thursday evening. The win brings the Westminster Blue Jays to 8-5-1 on the season and 6-1 in conference. 

Sophomore Morgan Henry netted the first goal in the ninth minute off a penalty shot. Freshman Courtney Whitlock scored the second goal of the game in the 40th minute with an assist from freshman Gracie Koonce, and the Blue Jays headed into halftime with the 2-0 lead.

In the 55th minute, Koonce placed the ball in the goal with the assist from senior Ashley Schimmel. Junior Adrienne Ebersole scored the fourth and final goal for the Blue Jays with the assist from sophomore Kaely Fitterling in the 76th minute.

Principia scored a late goal with under a minute to play to stop the Blue Jays' from getting credit for a shutout. 

The Blue Jays outshot Principia 17-8. The team recorded 13 shots-on-goal with four goals scored. 

Junior goalkeeper Ellen Woolsey (8-5-1) recorded the win in goal. She posted three saves while in goal. Freshman keeper Ali Perry closed out the game in net.

The Blue Jays return home for the remaining two games of the 2015 regular season. They face off with Greenville College, the other undefeated team in the SLIAC, on Tuesday, October 27, at 7:00 pm at Fulton High School. They close out the season with a game versus Spalding on Saturday, October 31, at 4:00 pm.
