St. Louis, MO, 9/21/21 – The Westminster Blue Jays women's soccer team knew they had a tough road to travel Tuesday going up against the Fontbonne University Griffins, the same team that they handed their only loss of the season to in the SLIAC Conference Tournament Championship last year.  The Griffins, who returned all their starters, were ready.  The Jays came to play as well and the two teams battled to a scoreless halftime score.  The second half saw the Griffins punch through for three goals and would go on to win the game 3-1.  The Blue Jays fall to 0-4 and 0-2 in SLIAC play.  The Griffins Improved to 3-2-1 and 2-0-1 in SLIAC play.

The Blue Jay defense was up to the task the first 45 minutes.  Whatever attacker that did get a shot off sophomore goalkeeper Megan Davidson (St. Louis, MO / Affton High School) would take care of it, as she made five first half saves to keep the game scoreless.  The Griffins would strike first in the second half when Krystal Kohenskey would find the back of the net in the 49th minute to make the score 1-0 Griffins.  Caroline Neal would score in the both the 59th minute and 68th minute to give the Griffins their biggest lead at 3-0.  The Blue Jays would get something going in the 88th minute after a Fontbonne foul gave the Jays a free kick and sophomore midfielder Annalise Beck (St. Louis, MO / Notre Dame High School) would find junior defender Abbey Montana (Barnhart, MO / Seckman) in front of the goal and she would would blast a shot past the Griffin keeper for her first collegiate goal making the score 3-1.

The Griffins outshot the Blue Jays 36-3 in the game and 17-3 in shots on goal.  Fontbonne took six corner kicks to Westminster's two.  The Blue Jays were whistled for ten fouls to the Griffins eight.

The Blue Jays will return home for their next contest when they welcome the Principia College Panthers to Kent and Judith Mueller Stadium on Saturday September 25th.  The game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. kick off.
