Fulton, MO, 10/6/21 – The Blue Jays women's soccer team came into Wednesday nights showdown with the Webster University Gorloks on the heels of back to back wins. The Jas were hoping for another but the Gorloks turned a scoreless halftime tie into a 2-0 regulation victory. The loss dropped the Blue Jays to 3-6 overall and 3-4 in the SLIAC. Webster improves to 8-3 overall and 4-2 in the SLIAC.
Both defenses came to play from the get go on Wednesday. Webster would outshoot the Jays 10-3 in the half but thanks to strong play from keeper Megan Davidson (St. Louis, MO / Affton High School) who made seven first half saves to keep the game scoreless. She even saved a Webster penalty kick late in the 22nd minute of the game. The Blue Jays had a scoring chance sail just wide as Lauren Halamicek's (St. Louis, MO / Oakville High School) shot from left of the goal 25 yards out sailed just a foot wide of the far upper 90 in the 21st minute.
The game swung in the second half when the Blue Jays, in an attempt to clear the ball out of their box, scored an own goal to put Webster up 1-0 in the 47th minute. The Blue Jays still had time and hope to get the equalizer. Those hopes were dashed in the 58th minute when Webster's Mackenzie Sundhausen took a cross from Jennifer Munger and standing on the six hard line she beat Davidson for a 2-0 lead. That would prove to be the final score.
The Gorloks outshot the Blue Jays 18-3 overall and 10-1 in shots on goal. Webster took seven corner kicks to Westminster's two. The Blue Jays were whistled for nine fouls and the Gorloks for five. Megan Davidson played all 90 minutes in goal and made ten saves.
The Blue Jays will be back at home on Saturday for a 3:00 p.m. contest against the Eureka College Red Devils.
