Fulton, MO, 9/25/21 – First year head coach Courtney Howe and her Blue Jay women's soccer team were hungry for their first victory. They threw everything they had at the visiting Principia College Panthers and despite a scoreless first half, they kept going eventually breaking through with the only goal of the game, a rebound strike from sophomore midfielder Jenna Frisella (St. Louis, MO / Oakville High School). That goal gave the team its first victory of the season and Coach Howe's first career head coaching win. The win improves the Blue Jays to 1-4 overall and 1-2 in the SLIAC. Principia falls to 2-3-1 and 2-2 in the SLIAC.
The First half was dominated by the Blue Jays. They outshot the Panthers 14-3 in the first half. Unfortunately for the Jays they just couldn't get one in the back of the net. Frisella and junior midfielder Lauren Halamicek (St. Louis, MO / Oakville High School) each had excellent chances in the first half but the Panthers managed to get the game to halftime scoreless.
Frisella would finally break through for the Blue Jays just over 5 minutes into the second half scoring off a rebound from freshman midfielder Savanah Feltrop (Jefferson City, MO / Helias) in the 51st minute to give the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead they would not give up.
The Blue Jays outshot the Panthers 20-3 in the game and 8-1 in shots on goal. The Jays were awarded three corner kicks to Principia's one. The Panthers were whistled for nine fouls to the Blue Jays five.
Sophomore goalkeeper Megan Davidson (St. Louis, MO / Affton High School) faced just one shot on goal and made the save going the distance on the way to the shutout.
The Blue Jays will be back in action quickly. They travel to World Wide Technology Soccer Park in St. Louis to take on the Webster University Gorloks on Monday September 27th. The game is scheduled for a 5:00 p.m. kick off.
